The unprecedented SongPro, new entry-level hybrid SUV from the Chinese brand, appears in this exclusive shot of Digital Cluster still covered in heavy camouflage. However, it was possible to identify the model by the designs of the LEDs in the headlights and taillights, as well as the alloy wheels. In the final stretch of approval, the utility vehicle is scheduled to debut in the country in June.

BYD Song Pro: The new entry-level hybrid SUV

Just like the Digital Cluster anticipated in August 2023, BYD Song Pro will be a direct competitor to Jeep Compass and, mainly, the Toyota Corolla Cross. At the time, the model had its patents and industrial design registered in the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI). In fact, although it hasn't even been launched, the new hybrid SUV is the most likely to go into production at the Camaçari factory, in Bahia. Nationalization should include the hybrid flex system.

The differences between Song Pro and Plus

Despite the same initial name (Song), the Pro and Plus models are different. Starting with the look. The new SUV, for example, has narrower, “toothed” headlights, with vertical LEDs, and the bumper is rougher. The rear is quite similar, but the headlights have a braided LED design, with a younger touch. Finally, on board the two SUVs also look very similar, with the large 15.6″ rotating screen in the middle of the dashboard.

In terms of dimensions, the BYD Song Pro is larger in length, at 4.73 meters, and in height, at 1.71 m. The width is smaller (1.86 m) than its brother, while the wheelbase measures 2.72 m. The Song Plus brother is respectively 4.70 m, 1.89 m, 1.68 m and 2.76 m.

Equipment and technologies

Regarding equipment, in China, the hybrid SUV comes standard with interesting technologies such as a panoramic sunroof, electric adjustment for the driver's seat, dual-zone air conditioning and semi-autonomous driving assistants.

Less powerful, but with greater range

In comparison with Song Plus, the Pro has a similar hybrid set. However, the new SUV is slightly less powerful and therefore has greater autonomy. The 1.5 aspirated gasoline engine generates 110 hp of power and 13.8 mkgf of maximum torque, and works together a electric motor. Combined, they deliver maximum power of 197 hp and around 32 mkgf of torque, that is, less than the 235 hp and 40.8 mkgf of the Plus.

In China, the Song Pro has two battery options. The first, 12.9 kWh, can reach 71 km of autonomy. The second, with 18.3 kWh, provides up to 110 km in 100% electric mode. To have a competitive price, the model must arrive in the entry-level version, with a smaller battery. Even so, it promises a range of around 1,000 km with a full battery and tank.

Price of the new BYD Song Pro

In China, the BYD Song Pro starts at 135,800 yuan, around R$ 96,000 in direct conversion and without taxes. In any case, when it arrives on the Brazilian market, the SUV should cost less than the Song Plus, with a list price of R$ 229,800. Therefore, the expectation is that the new plug-in hybrid will cost close to R$ 200 thousand.
