Excessive speed, running a red light and parking in a prohibited place are the three traffic violations most committed by Brazilian drivers. The information is from a survey carried out by fintech Zapay. In the 1st quarter of 2024 alone, there was growth of 25,5% in fines registered compared to the same period last year.

What were the most committed fines?

O speeding is the most common infraction committed by drivers, with 35,7% of the total. This corresponds to a medium, serious or very serious infraction, depending on the percentage of speed above the limit. If the driver exceeds between 20% and 50% of the maximum permitted speed, it is a medium infraction with a fine of R$ 195.23 and 5 points on the wallet. If the limit is exceeded 50%, the driver may even lose his license. The infraction is very serious, with a fine of R$ 880.41.

In 2nd place comes the red light advance, which corresponds to 4.7% of the total number of registrations and is a very serious infraction. In other words, the driver accumulates 7 points on his driver's license and pays a fine worth R$ 293.47. On the other hand, parking in a prohibited place/time is a medium, serious or very serious infraction, being the third most committed by drivers.

States with the most records of infractions

In the Zapay survey, the Rio de Janeiro stands out first, with 25,7% of the total number of infractions per driver. This is a significant change in the ranking, considering that, last year, in the same period, São Paulo was in 1st place with 29,9%. This time, São Paulo had a decrease in amount and appears in second place with 21% of infractions, while the Federal District accounted for 11.4%, the Bahia by 8.1% and Goiás was in 5th place with 7,4%.
