Audi of America has announced the most powerful rear-wheel drive Audi R8 model in the company's history.
Its 5.2-litre, 10-cylinder engine from the 2023 GT produces an impressive 594 hp and 560 Nm of torque.
Like its previous limited edition, only 333 units of the 2023 R8 GT will be made, but this time there will be no Spyder version.
Audi has also confirmed that 150 GTs will be sold exclusively in the US market.
This will be the last edition of the R8, which will retire after the 2023 season and hang its tires after 17 years.
More engine details of the Audi R8 GT RWD
The current edition of the R8 GT RWD, has a total output of 554bhp and 550Nm of torque.
The new version offers superior performance with an additional 40 hp and 10 Nm of torque, but with an engine speed of up to 8,700 rpm.
The new R8 GT does 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds, while the current edition does it in 3.6 seconds.
The model has a top speed of 320 km/h and Audi has added a unique design to this sports car by painting the engine valve covers black.
The 5.2-liter powertrain continues to be mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The updated 2023 model of the R8 GT isn't just about tweaking the power and sprucing up the design.
Bearing in mind that it's rear-wheel drive, Audi has introduced a Torque Rear mode that gives you quick access to seven-level traction control settings.
Level 1 provides maximum support with reduced engine torque, which leads to a low level of wheel slip, while Level 7 provides only minimal support with increased engine torque, which leads to a high level of wheel slip.
This allows the R8 GT to meet the challenging demands of different driving conditions.
The R8 GT is not only more powerful, but also 55 lb (25 kg) lighter compared to the performance RWD Coupe R8 V10.
The weight savings comes primarily from the use of lightweight 20-inch mill-cut forged wheels inspired by LMS race cars and a ceramic brake system.
Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) is also used for the standard sport suspension sway bar.
The new Audi R8 GT will arrive in US dealerships in early 2023 and starts at $249,900 USD $, not including destination fees, paint and gas excise duty.
