THE Nissan presented the fourth generation of the X-Trail model, this will be the second model in the European range of the Japanese manufacturer, after the Qashqai, to be equipped with the e-POWER hybrid engine.
The large SUV, available in five- and seven-seater forms, will go on sale in Europe next month with a choice of three hybrid-only powertrains and five specification levels.
The internal combustion engine does not drive the wheels, but acts as a generator to generate a current that charges the battery. This energy powers the electric motor that drives the wheels.
The operation of the combustion engine is controlled by the computer, the driver has no influence on its operation.
The entry-level engine is a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline unit with mild hybrid assistance and 163 HP with a 12-volt electrical system.
It produces up to 161bhp and 221lb ft of torque, with power delivered through a CVT gearbox.
This engine also benefits from variable compression technology aimed at increasing economy, meaning drivers can expect savings of up to 39.9mpg.
O Nissan X-Trail 2WD will have a combined power of 204 hp, a maximum torque of 330 Nm and the possibility of equipping all-wheel drive, which Nissan calls the e-4ORCE.
Because of this, a second electric motor is added behind it. which allows the power of 213 hp to be distributed individually on each axle.
