Toyota rules out launching other GR Performance models

Toyota is currently one of the few traditional vehicle manufacturers with three or more performance-focused models.

According to an Australian source, that's all we can expect from japanese automaker in the near future.

If true, it would put an end to speculation about future GR models and potentially add value to existing ones.

End of the line for GR Performance

Toyota GR86 chief engineer Yasunori Suezawa said the GR86 is the last of the GR Performance cars.

“There really is no one left, so this GR86 is the last one,” he said specifically of the GR Performance lineup.

“For GR a performance brand, it's basically GR86 the last one. But we have the GR Sport brand, which we will expand with models like Corolla, Yaris Cross and C-HR”, concluded Yasunori.

That would mean rumors about a number of possible performance designs, including the new MR2 and the GR Corolla sedan, would be false.

Interestingly, this also indicates that other GR Sport models are still in development. The GR Sport line is not widely sold here in the United States.

If that is the case, the future of GR is very uncertain. As GR86 having received its second generation just nearly 10 years after introduction, It is safe to assume that this car will remain on the market for quite some time.

If the reviews are true, then almost all GR models will go up in price as they will be the last of their kind.
