There are many ways to transform a classic Volkswagen Beetle. In addition to the usual beach or rat Beetle, there were several fun constructions for the Beetle. From high-powered dragsters to karting, transforming a Beetle is only limited by imagination. We also saw the old Beetle transformed into mobile homes. But a Californian named Sergio took a different approach to building a camper Beetle. Instead of throwing a (mini) motorhome over it, he turned the car into a teardrop-shaped trailer.

Sergio's teardrop trailer started life as a 1965 Beetle. The owner said it took about four years to get where it is now, but added that work is never done on this project. The front end was cut to form the teardrop shape, and a few inches were removed from the ceiling. The front of the camper was made with the fenders of another Beetle. It has a sunroof to brighten the interior, as well as a roof rack to store extra luggage. Sergio also sealed one side of the Beetle by removing the windows. Only one door remains, which serves as the entrance to the humble abode.

The small camper also has a small kitchen. It is located where the engine was and has an oven with a built-in coffee maker, a portable stove and a sink. Its battery and five-gallon water supply reside under the mini-cooking area. For such a small camper, the bed inside is quite sizeable. Other amenities include two large storage spaces, a lamp, a coat rack and a fan. It's not full of TVs and other toys, but it looks like a good place to kick back and relax.

The Beetle trailer can't move by itself, but it's great to see these old cars tastefully repurposed. That said, we're curious about which car Sergio uses to tow the trailer. It's nice to think he drives another Volkswagen for a spin around town.
